As a home organizer, one thing I often notice is that décor is easy to collect, but not always easy to store.

We buy beautiful pieces for Diwali, Ganpati, Christmas, birthdays, dinner parties and festive occasions. We carefully pack them away after the celebration, but when the next season arrives, finding what we need can become a project in itself.

Over time, boxes get mixed up, delicate pieces get damaged and we forget what we already own.

So, how should you store your décor?

Here are 5 organisers I recommend.

  1. Clear Storage Boxes with Lids

These are my first choice for most small and medium-sized décor.

They work well for diyas, candle holders, small figurines, table décor, small artificial flowers and festive accessories.

I particularly like clear boxes because you can see what is inside without opening every box.

And when you have several boxes stored together, that visibility makes a big difference.

  1. Compartment Boxes for Fragile Décor

Not everything should be thrown into one large box. Glass ornaments, delicate figurines, Christmas ornaments and small ceramic pieces need individual protection.

Use compartment boxes or dividers to keep fragile pieces separated.

  1. Large Rigid Boxes for Bulky Décor

Large lanterns, artificial flowers, festive backdrops, large candle holders and other bulky pieces need more space.

For these, I prefer sturdy, stackable boxes with lids. Avoid putting too many different categories into one large box just because there is space.

  1. Fabric Storage Bags for Soft Décor

Some décor doesn’t need a rigid box.

Fabric torans, table runners, festive cushion covers, Christmas stockings and other soft decorations can be stored neatly in fabric storage bags.

I prefer bags with a transparent window, so you can identify the contents easily.

Fold them neatly, group similar pieces together and label the bag.

  1. Dedicated Storage for Odd-Shaped Pieces

Some décor simply doesn’t fit neatly into a rectangular box.

Wreaths, long garlands and larger decorative pieces can get crushed or tangled when stored incorrectly.

For these, use dedicated bags, large sturdy, zippered fabric or transparent bags, hooks or appropriately sized containers that allow them to retain their shape.

One Rule I Follow as a Home Organizer

Store décor according to how you will look for it later.

Think about the next time you need it.

Will you remember which box it is in?

Can you identify it easily?

Can you take it out without disturbing everything else?

Good organizing is about making it easier to find, use and put them back.
